Liverpool have elevated themselves to the status of third most successful club in the history of the European Cup and Champions League following their sixth title on Saturday night. Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 to lift the trophy in Madrid and put themselves clear of five-time winners Bayern Munich and Barcelona. The Reds are now just one behind Italian giants AC Milan but everyone has a considerable distance to go to catch 13-times champions Real Madrid. The Spaniards won the first five editions of the European Cup following its inception in 1955 and had won four of the previous five Champions League titles prior to Liverpool’s win. Saturday’s win at the Wanda Metropolitano also underlined Liverpool’s status as the most successful English club in Europe’s leading competition. They have double Manchester United’s haul of three wins, while Nottingham Forest have won it twice and Chelsea and Aston Villa one apiece. Liverpool also boosted their tally of wins across all UEFA competitions to 12 following the weekend. They have won six European Cups, three UEFA Cups (now the Europa League) and three European Super Cups during the course of their history. Their latest triumph moved them clear of Juventus, who have 11 European or world trophies, and two behind Barcelona on 14. Liverpool will have the chance to increase that total to 13 when they plays Chelsea in the Super Cup final on August 14 in Istanbul. The now defunct Intercontinental Cup, which ran between 1960 and 2004, pitting the champions of Europe and South America against one another, is counted as it was an official UEFA competition. It became a FIFA competition when it merged with the Club World Cup in 2005. Real Madrid top the overall list with 22 pieces of silverware – 13 European Cups, two UEFA Cups, four Super Cups and three Intercontinental Cups. AC Milan last won the European Cup in 2007, when they defeated Liverpool in the Athens final Barcelona won the last of their five European Cups when they beat Juventus in the 2015 final AC Milan rank second with 17 – seven European Cups, two European Cup Winners’ Cups, five Super Cups and three Intercontinental Cups. And Barcelona come third with 14 – five European Cups, four Cup Winners’ Cups and five Super Cups – ahead of Liverpool. They move ahead of Juventus on 11, while Bayern Munich and Ajax both have 10 each. The next most successful English club are Manchester United on seven pieces of UEFA silverware. **All-time UEFA Competition winners** Includes winners of the European Cup/Champions League (1955-present), UEFA Cup/Europa League (1971-present), Cup Winners’ Cup (1960-1999), Super Cup (1973-present), Intertoto Cup (1995-2008) and Intercontinental Cup (1960-2004). 22 – Real Madrid 17 – AC Milan 14 – Barcelona 12 – Liverpool 11 – Juventus 10 – Bayern Munich, Ajax 8 – Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid 7 – Manchester United, Porto 6 – Sevilla, Chelsea 5 – Anderlecht, Valencia 4 – Feyenoord, Hamburg, Parma 3 – Nottingham Forest, Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Schalke, Dynamo Kiev 2 – Benfica, PSV Eindhoven, Marseille, Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade, Borussia Monchengladbach, IFK Gothenburg, Galatasaray, Zenit Saint-Petersburg, Paris Saint-Germain, Werder Bremen, West Ham United, Aberdeen, Mechelen, Lazio, Stuttgart, Villarreal 1 – Celtic, Bayer Leverkusen, CSKA Moscow, Eintracht Frankfurt, Ipswich Town, Napoli, Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal, Dinamo Tbilisi, Everton, Fiorentina, Magdeburg, Manchester City, Rangers, Real Zaragoza, Sampdoria, Slovan Bratislava, Sprting Lisbon, Auxerre, Bastia, Bologna, Bordeaux, Braga, Celta Vigo, Fulham, Guingamp, Karlsruhe, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Malaga, Montpellier, Newcastle United, Perugia, Strasbourg, Silkeborg, Troyes, Udinese
